Mark Zuckerberg’s custom Little League baseball card is converted to NFT

In addition to letting the meta staff who shouldn’t be present warm up a little and get on the metaverse path, Mark Zuckerberg highlights Instagram’s extensive NFT support. The founder and CEO took the opportunity to announce extended support for NFT on Instagram to let everyone know that his personalized 1992 Little League baseball card will be on sale soon, with an NFT included as part of the package.

I thought he’d come up with himself, but as the Metropolis Comic Collect profile linked to his article explains, that’s not the case. This card is a Zuckerberg card created specifically for a camp guard who guarded it and has now been authenticated and listed as a true collector’s item in addition to the blockchain digital receipt. If you look at his post, you will now know that when he was eight, Zuckerberg got this card done saying he hit for a one-handed .920 extension in Dobbs Ferry, New York. York.

This comes at an interesting time for the meta. Its main cash cow, Facebook, just announced its first revenue drop in the second quarter. Already in a state of confusion, Instagram is rolling back tests for TikTok-like features because, as CEO Adam Mosseri told Casey Newton, people are frustrated and usage data isn’t great.

Meta is therefore plunging, albeit belatedly, into a niche market for digital collectibles that has collapsed since the winter peak. A tracker on Dune shows data from OpenSea showing that sales volume has remained fairly flat in the following months, having declined since May.

In a separate report for Platformers, Newton noted that Meta, Twitter, and Reddit are all pushing NFT projects but have no data on how they are doing it.

The only explanation for this focus is the idea that these collectibles will somehow explode in value when combined with the augmented and virtual reality rooms that Zuckerberg is trying to build, but we’re not there yet.

Today’s news from Meta is that the NFT support test is available in 100 other countries, with connections for Coinbase Wallet and Dapper, as well as NFT from the Flow blockchain.

Correction August 4 7:04 PM ET: In an earlier version of this story, Mark Zuckerberg coined his Little League card as the NFT. In fact, it is being sold as a collectible by someone else who will include an NFT in the sale. We are sorry for the mistake.
